I was a quiet boy back in my young days, growing up in Kedah with a mind full of curiosity. I always dreamed of becoming an economist, even though I wasn’t entirely sure what an economist actually does. I just knew that I wanted to understand how money moved.

When it came time for university, I took a leap of faith and pursued my Bachelor’s Degree (Finance & Management) at AIMST University. This was a turning point for me. Stepping out of my comfort zone, I began to see how finance wasn’t just about numbers; it was about psychology, strategy, and risk-taking.

Then came the real world. I started my career at KPMG as an Internal Auditor, where I was exposed to financial controls, risk assessments, and compliance frameworks. Over time, I transitioned into governance and risk management, working on corporate governance structures, internal controls, and strategic financial oversight.

My role expanded into forensic investigations and Anti-Money Laundering Act (AMLA) compliance, where I analyzed financial anomalies and investigated fraudulent activities. I was fortunate to be involved in several high-profile cases across multiple countries, dealing with complex financial crimes and corporate misconduct.

But I wasn’t satisfied. I wanted to push my boundaries further, to challenge myself beyond what I thought was possible. That’s when I decided to pursue both my Master’s and PhD in Behavioral Finance at Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM).

After years in the corporate world, I felt a pull toward something bigger—something of my own. Taking a bold leap, I founded my consultancy firm, not just as a business but as a bridge between academia and industry. My goal was to leverage my expertise to guide businesses, investors, and financial institutions through market complexities and strategic growth.
Today, I am attached to Universiti Malaya, ranked QS 60 globally, where I lead a group of PhD students working on cutting-edge financial projects. Over the years, I have successfully supervised and graduated more than 20 PhD scholars, contributing to research in behavioral finance, ESG, AI, and capital markets. Prior to this, I served as Deputy Dean at a private university, shaping academic programs and research initiatives.
Looking back, I smile at the journey from that quiet boy in Kedah who once wondered what an economist does. I never imagined my path would lead me here—to being a finance scholar, ESG and AI researcher, consultant, and academic mentor. Every challenge, every late-night study session, and every decision along the way has shaped who I am today.
But this is not the end. The journey of The Kedah Boy is still unfolding, and I’m excited to see where it takes me next.
在企业界奋斗多年后，我开始感受到一种更深层次的召唤——一个属于我自己的事业。于是，我勇敢迈出一步，创立了自己的咨询公司。它不仅仅是一门生意，更是一座连接学术界与行业的桥梁。我的目标是运用自己的专业知识，帮助企业、投资者和金融机构应对市场复杂性，实现战略增长。 如今，我在马来亚大学（Universiti Malaya）任职，这所大学在QS全球排名第60位。我领导着一批博士生，致力于前沿金融研究。
多年来，我成功指导并培养了20多位博士生，在行为金融学、ESG、人工智能（AI）和资本市场等领域做出了学术贡献。在此之前，我曾担任某私立大学的副院长，负责学术项目的规划与研究发展。 回首过去，我不禁微笑——那个曾在吉打默默思考“经济学家到底是做什么”的安静男孩，怎么也没想到，自己会走上今天的道路。
如今，我是一名金融学者、ESG与AI研究者、顾问及学术导师。一路走来，每一次挑战、每一个深夜苦读的时刻、每一个关键决策，都塑造了今天的我。 但这并不是终点。“吉打男孩”的旅程仍在继续，我期待着未来将带我去往何方。
